NATURE WALK

Nature helps us in becoming free of thoughts that trouble us or hinder us and through the walks we find answers to difficult questions that bring clarity to our lives. Nature Walk is an interpretive programme offering excellent opportunity to watch birds, butterflies and other wildlife. The trails often pass through evergreen and moist deciduous forests interspersed with marshy grasslands.

BOATING

The lake is surrounded by the lush greenery of the Periyar wildlife sanctuary. The cruise is unique for its one among the few in the world that offers such close sight of wildlife. The lake is an artificial one formed after the building of Mullaperiyar dam across Periyar (the second longest river in the state) and Mulllayar rivers. More than 30 species of fish are found in the lake. River Otter, the only mammal in the lake, can very often be seen along a ride. Boating is conducted by the state forest department and the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation.

Bamboo Rafting

This eco friendly program takes the tourists to the thick forests on trek and then to the catchments area of the Periyar Tiger Reserve on a bamboo raft. Starting at 8 am from the boat landing, a mosaic of habitats will be traversed before the party gets into rafts made of bamboos. A float on bamboo rafts, soak in the serenity exuding from the waters of Periyar and feel the tranquillity in place at the sanctuary.

Elephant Ride

For an uncommon experience, book an elephant ride catered by the Periyar National Park. Making its place in the popular things to do in here, one can create splendid memories with this activity. With various sections of the programme, one can either take amazing photos with the elephants or just enjoy the soothing elephant bath sessions. Also, here one can experience feeding the elephants. Something which makes the experience unique is the elephant shower, which is a plus to this jungle tour.

KADATHANADAN KALARI CENTRE

Kalaripayattu-the oldest of martial arts-is a gift to the modern world and known as the mother of all martial arts. legend traces the 3000-year old art form to sage Parasurama-the master of all martial art forms and credited to be the re-claimer of Kerala from the arabian sea. Kalaripayattu originated in ancient south India.

Kathakali

– Experience Kerala’s glorious skilled forms of art. Kathakali and Kalaripayattu are two strong pillars upon which the state’s art and culture heritage rests. On this two hours experience, you’ll witness these forms in full bloom being performed in front of your very own eyes. It is nothing short of a gripping episode.

Tiger Trail

The wildlife comes together in perfect harmony with its scenic beauty to make Thekkady a right destination for nature lovers. Here, nestled in the southern Western Ghats of peninsular India, Periyar Tiger Reserve (PTR) is the oldest and largest protected areas of Kerala.

The trek route passes through hills and valleys with a variety of tropical plants and wide-open spaces. Enroute vegetarian meals will be prepared and served and country tents will be pitched for holing up in the night. Trekking groups are accompanied by armed forest guards with good communication equipments, and geared to face any emergency situation.
